Far from the madding crowd:offbeat destinations

With the popular tourist destinations getting over-crowded, more and more people are turning towards offbeat places to enjoy a relaxing vacation nowadays. People finding a recluse out of the din and bustle of Kolkata have now opted for lesser known places in and around their state. This article will list down some of these calm and mesmerising places which are just a few among all such amazing places. These places also provide ample inspirations for photographers as these are close to nature and some are also of historic origin.
We start with Chandraketugarh  which  is a long lost ancient city unearthed by excavation. Situated on the banks of Bidyadhari river in South 24 Parganas, it is just 50kms away from Kolkata. According to the Archeological Survey of India, the relics excavated date back as early as that before the Maurya dynasty.  Relics include Buddha stupas and images, coins of Jataka stories, decorative designs of the Pala period and such other things.

Then there is Taki which is an instance of mystical beauty of rural Bengal.  It is located in Hasnabad which is 80kms from Kolkata. The river Ichamati rinses  past and provides a scintillating experience for the tourists who come here to enjoy  the serenity of rustic Bengal.  The main attraction is a Bagan Bari which houses many small resorts.
Samsing, a landscape coloured with orange and green , is an untouched rural corner of Darjeeling district.  It is located at a distance of 82kms from Siliguri. Exempted from the harmful effects of commercialisation, the main attractions of this place are lush green tea gardens and dense forests inhabited by indigenous animals and birds. Also the Neora Valley National Park is located within a distance of 18kms.
