GLITTERING NIGHTS OF KALI PUJA

The love between human children and the divine mother is an exotic relationship. The dark mother kali is an example of such deity. In spite of her fearful appearance devotees have an intimate and very loving bond. In this wonderful creation of relationship, the worshiper becomes a child and the ferocious lord kali takes the form of ever caring mother.

Kali Puja is another major occasion in Kolkata which take place in Kolkata a couple weeks after the celebration of laxmi Puja. She also knew as goddess of destruction. Goddess kali was worshiped because people believed that she protected them from evils. Goddess kali also symbolizes strength. It is the rituals which are conducted at midnight in the month of Kartik on the day of the new moon. In India Diwali is mainly celebrated in accordance to Laxmi Puja. However, in Kolkata Kali Puja is celebrated in accordance to kali Maa. There are also some exceptions in the families who celebrate Diwali and worships Goddess Laxmi. Animals are rituals sacrifice on kali puja day and offer to goddess.

Diwali night is a light up night for Kolkata. People light candles, diyas, sparkling lights in the memory of their departed and ancestor's souls. The local youth enjoys burning crackers and sparkers throughout the whole night. Thus it is known as the night of fireworks.

The eastern bank of Hooghly River has a presiding deity of the Hindu temple bhavatarini, an aspect of Kali. A devotee of kali and a philanthropist, Rani Rashmoni built this temple in the year 1855. It’s associated with Ram Krishna, which is the mystic of 19th century Bengal led this temple to be more famous. This temple is famous known across the country which is situated near Kolkata in Dakshineswar- Dakshineswar kali temple.

On the occasions of kali Puja in Dakshineswar temple there is an immense no. of crowd. This temple is very famous for maa kali in all over the world. The temple is beautifully in sculptured with various types of flowers and lightning and it has a very beautiful glamour’s look. In this specious day many sacred rituals takes place among which evening Aarati is very famous. A person from various places comes over just to see the sacred rituals and traditions which are followed from ages of time.

On many Bengali household kali is worshiped daily. A large cremation ground is prepared in Kolkata and Guwahati on the eve of kali puja. God shiva the concert of kali is also present kali’s house images is also present in the pandals. People visit this pandals throughout the night.

In an interview when asked:

How do you prefer to celebrate kali puja?

-A 14 years old girl Anamika hajra says “I decorate my house with 108 diyas as because my mother is a devotee of kali maa after that I prefer burning crackers with my brother ishan who enjoys the whole thing as much as I do”.

-A 75 year old men Somnath shah says that he prefer staying back at home, watching television and having luchi and mutton.

The ceremony is serious and awe-inspiring devotees pray to her for blessings and to get relief and comfort she is the giver of all good.
