The film “Ab Tak Chhappan 2” is a sequel to the much applauded 2004 movie “Ab Tak Chhappan”. The story revolves around Inspector Sadhu Agashe portrayed by Nana Patekar. This film is said to be inspired from the life of police sub-inspector Daya Nayak.

“Ab Tak Chappan” ends where Sadhu Agashe goes rogue and knocks off some top members of the underworld of Mumbai because his war had by then turned personal.” Ab Tak Chhappan 2” takes off from here and shifts to a coastal village. After his wife’s death Sadhu leads an exiled life . But he has to resume his job and soon realises that this time his battle again is no longer going to remain impersonal.” Ab Tak Chappan 2”, like its prequel is too about the unholy politician-police-underworld nexus.

But it is very difficult to compare the two movies for the very first reason that they have different directors.  Also in” Ab Tak Chhappan 2”  Agashe is shown maturing with dignity, but his department is still stuck in medieval days: They are being knocked down by the more refined and technically superior mafia. The enemy no longer belongs to the remote places.  Instead, they are veiled as politicians.

Now, such a scene would demand a cop who is not scared of getting his hands dirty, and he also needs the system’s support. Nana Patekar walks the thin line between the black-and-white with thorough planning, but the system does not rightly support him .  Ashutosh Rana hasn’t been given any chance to match up the intensity of Yashpal Sharma (a cop in the previous film). In fact, Sadhu  Agashe’s adviser namely Pradhan (Mohan Agashe) gets more opportunities to show off his acting skills. This approach gets in the way of the film from becoming a multi-layered story like the previous one.
Again we see in the prequel, Sadhu stood up against both the criminals and the infiltrators in the police department. But “Ab Tak Chhappan 2” is more unchallenging and hence more centred on Nana Patekar. It may appear a good technique on the director’s part, but it also restricts the story from offering subtexts. We also see Gul Panag in the guise of a crime reporter in the film whose character is not well-written and she looks lost.
Let’s put it easy “Ab Tak Chhappan 2 “ is, one honest cop standing against the entire system.
