Kolkata holds many festivals throughout the year. Major festivals include DURGA PUJA,KALI PUJA & KOLKATA BOOK FAIR. Durga puja and Kali puja, which are held in autumn every year. Kolkata looks like a bride during the puja time with colourful pandals and decorative statues of Goddesses. It is the biggest cultural festival of the city. Other festivals include Poila boishak, Dolyatra, Saraswati puja, Eid-ul-fitr, Christmas and the Kolkata international film festival. The major festival of Bengali culture and Kolkata is Durga puja, which is the day of a Bengali. It is the four days of puja of Maa Durga, people enjoy these four days like the last few days of life. And if we talk about Kali puja it is the festival of lights, fire works, Kolkata breaks out the silence of the finish of Durga puja in Kali puja(also known as Diwali)with joy. During diwali Kolkata is decorated like a princess. And other festival like Sraswati puja, Christmas etc are also enjoyed a lot. In Bengali cultural there is a quote “Baro mase tero pujo”, which shows that Kolkata is always ready for festivals & more over people of Kolkata love to enjoy each and every festival to the fullest. Dol, Eid, Christmas, ratha yatra are also celebrated majorly. Festival means colours,light, getting together & enjoyment so festivals of Kolkata never end. “Asche bochor abar hobe”.
