AAP : A
TURNING POINT FOR INDIAN DEMOCRACY
The Aam Aadmi Party could be transforming Indian politics.
Ramzan Khan was in tears when Arvind Kejriwal
took his oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi . He could not keep his eye off
the podium . It was also an emotional moment for those around him . Ramzan Khan
travelled all the way from Jodhpur in order to capture this moment . Khan who
is a carpenter by profession described this event as a " historic moment
in India 's history. "
When the oath ceremony took place , the venue
Ramlila Ground was all charged up , infact it was totally a sprawling
atmosphere where the people of all walks of life , irrespective of young as
well as old wore traditional and trademark Aam Aadmi Party caps where they had
gathered just to capture the mascot of the anti - corruption movement ,
assuming the mantle of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal , less than a year
forming a political party
" In 1947 , country gained its independence
, but today the people has gained their freedom. For the first time in India ,
a real democracy of the people and by the people has been established. I feel
liberated . Now people are the real rulers which will take care of the problem
of the corruption prevailing in the country . " claims 44 years old who
earns around 250 rupees a day in the way we conduct poltics in our country.
" A revolution has started in India and
henceforth it will bring a massive change. The new policy will not tolerate
corruption by any mean in the country. The suffering of the people at the hands
f government officialps and the systems will go away with the rise of people
like Arvind Kejriwal. He has been bought for change , " asserts Ayush , a
software engineer who travelled from Gurgaon along with his friends just to
attend this event.
The Aam Aadmi Party , which started in the year
2011 , is a full fledged party is generating new type of hope and energy in the
country never witnessed before.
" For the first time , a civil society
movement has trasformed itself into a political organisation and challenged
established political parties. Similar attempt were made in the 1960 's and
1970's but unfortunately it did not succeed , this is a healthy sign for
democracy , " says Nilanjan Mukhopadhyay , a Delhi based political
analyst.
It was a signature of democracy , which is on
full display on December
28 , at iconic Ramlila
Ground in the heart of Delhi. Fittingly , this venue was one of the launching
pads of the movement against corruptions. Arvind Kejriwal under the leadership
of veteran , anti corruption crusader , Anna Hazare , rose from national
prominence from this very place. This ground acted as a catalyst and
transformed what was initially rebellion into the system into one of the major
political parties in Delhi.
Arvind Kejriwal formed this political party on
November 2012 after breaking up with mentor Anna Hazare. Nobody expected the
AAP to capture the imagination of the people of Delhi so quickly and become a
thorn in the side of political ambitious Bharatiya Janta Party ( BJP
) and Indian National Congress.
AAP recently became second in the elections and
won 28 seats ov of 70 , thereby restricting the front runner BJP to 32 seats
and reducing the incumbent Congress to third place with just 8 seats. A lack of
number forced the BJP to sit in opposition and outside support from the
Congress catapulted the AAP to the seat of power in the city state.
